1. 50 Social Studies Strategies for K-8 Classrooms Kathryn M. Obenchain- This is one of my go to books for social studies. It has great resources and reminds me don't always have to create everything from scratch. This book helped my lesson planning.
2.Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?: And Other Conversations about Race Beverly Tatum -During my pre-service education I found that there were still so many unresolved issues concerning race. This book opened the door to my research on race and education.
3. www.brainpop.com - My mentor teacher introduced me to this amazing site. There are tons of videos and activities for all ages and content. It's also a great way to include technology in any lesson.
4.Funds of Knowledge Theorizing Practices in Households, Communities, and Classrooms by Norma Gonzalez (Editor),- This text built my knowledge of how important the student's prior knowledge, community, and culture are to the learning environment.
5.Holler If You Hear Me: The Education of a Teacher and His Students by Gregory Michie - The authors self-reflection of the rewards and challenges of working in urban schools inspired me to want to be in that kind of environment and make a positive impact as an educator.
6.Pedagogy of the Oppressed Paulo Freire- This powerful book shaped my philosophy of teaching.
7.Reading for Understanding: How Reading Apprenticeship Improves Disciplinary Learning in Secondary and College Classrooms Ruth Schoenbach,-This is an amazing text that changed my relationship with reading. It provides great strategies across content areas. This book truly changed my relationship with reading and helped me understand what literacy is per situation, and the challenges that face struggling readers.
8. Savage Inequalities: Children in America's Schools Jonathan Kozol - This book exposed the serious issues in urban schools that face students of color and learners that come from homes of lower social-economic status. It inspired me to want to do my pre=service teaching in urban schools. My life goal is be an agent of change in urban schools and communities.

10. http://www.studyisland.com/ - This is a great and fun way to pre-assess student's prior knowledge or differentiate lessons with technology. The site has different activities at different levels.
