About Ms. Gibson
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." Henry David Thoreau
Dear fellow educators, students, and friends my name is Marcia Gibson. My friend and mentor teacher Cheneal Cassagnol and my students often just call me Ms. Gibby. I am a recent Georgia State University, Hope Scholarship graduate. I followed my dreams and in my mother's footsteps by pursing a profession in education. In May 2014 I received my Bachelors of Science in Education. I am certified to teach grades four through eight in both social studies and language
arts.
Logii Barnes-Pinion, Assistant Principal of Park Street Elementary School, said, "I was not surprised when I learned that Marcia’s post high school interest and desire was to become a teacher. Even at that young age,
she demonstrated leadership qualities as she always volunteered to distribute materials and was the first to offer assistance to anyone who needed help." At heart I have always been a teacher and had a passion to help. My love for teaching inspired me to participate in an education study aboard program. After receiving the International Education Fund Scholarship, I was able to travel to Madrid, Spain to work with urban students. It was by far one of the most enriching experiences in my life.
Most importantly, I was fortunate enough to obtain a wealth of experience at Ronald E. McNair Middle School during my practicum and student teaching. While teaching at McNair I planned and executed numerous student-centered, hands-on, and authentic learning experiences in grades 6-8. I was able to build my pedagogy in both content areas and work with students with learning disabilities and in the Talented and
Gifted Program.
My goal as an educator is to become an agent of change in my community. After researching and experiencing urban schools my awareness of the need of passionate teachers for students that are under-privileged has shaped my goals. I plan to use my knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy to facilitate in increasing the skills and strategies for all of my students to gain knowledge, power, and the tools to live the life they have imagined.
Sincerely,
Marcia Ivy Gibson
